Sidmouth RFC U16s 19

Okehampton RFC U16s 8

OKEHAMPTON started strongly with Sam Turner working well in the pack and Gary Sizmur directing from scrum half. A 40-metre penalty from Andy Herrod-Taylor opened the score.

Scrummaging was good with Chris Searle, Dan Hudson and Tom Bird pressuring the opposition. Sizmur broke from the scrum and split the defence with a 40-metre run but was brought down just short of the try-line. Jonny Hutchins in support took the pop pass for a try.

Sidmouth replied with a centre run down the blindside and timed pass to their right wing who took the ball at pace for the try.

At 8-7 ahead Okehampton ran the ball in midfield but were intercepted and Sidmouth scored under the posts to end the half 14-8 ahead.

Going downhill in the second half Okehampton failed to capitalise and leaked another try from broken play. Despite a rallying last quarter they could not convert pressure into points and paid the penalty of underworking in the third quarter.

This week home to Plymstock in the first round of the cup.

THIS was a good solid game with plenty of hard work done by both backs and forwards.

Pressure in the Sidmouth half led to Thomas White scoring the first of his two tries for Okehampton. But Sidmouth kept coming back and managed to score a couple themselves.

Okes' backs started running the ball around, putting the opposition under a lot of pressure and enabling Matthew Johns to score a great breakaway try.

Sidmouth came back to score themselves, making it a fair result for both teams.
