Okehampton 4
Tavistock 1
THIS hockey derby took place on Saturday in sweltering conditions.
The sides were evenly matched and as players acclimatised to the conditions both had chances to score.
Okehampton rode their luck early on and Tavistock were unlucky not to score.
Okehampton settled, increased the tempo and attacked with style. They opened the scoring midway through the half and this was quickly followed by a second.
A short corner was well saved by the Tavistock keeper, but Mark Parsons was on hand to score from the rebound.
Okehampton were in full flight pinning the visitors back and a neat through-ball put Simon Garland into space to score the third.
With half-time looming, Miles Harris took on the defence and cleared the ball from the edge of the D for the fourth Okehampton goal.
The second half was hard work for both sides. Okehampton tried to increase their tally but stout Tavistock resistance prevented further goals. Tavistock's networking style produced just reward when Carl Jefferies scored a consolation goal.
This week Okehampton travel to Plymouth to play Marjons.
