AN overgrown area of land behind Okehampton Air Cadets' base has been tidied up, thanks to staff from a local company.
The cadets' commanding officer, Sarah Cohen, issued a call for help to clear away brambles, gorse and weeds from the area behind the squadron's air rifle range.
Staff from Okehampton Glass stepped into the breach and helped the cadets with the clean up operation.
The cadets expressed thanks to all staff who helped clear the land. It will be turned into a user-friendly area with a possible mini assault course and barbecue.
The squadron also hopes to plant hedging to make the view more pleasurable for people walking or cycling along the Granite Way.
The cadets' flying officer, Karen Wayne, said: 'We want to put a gravel area around the rifle range, which was boggy before, and we have gravel which has been donated by Meldon Quarry.
'We are also looking for donations from the public to help us transform the land.
'We have applied to Okehampton Town Council for a grant and would be grateful for any donations people can offer.'
Anyone who would like to make a donation can phone Sarah Cohen on 01837 55044 or email [email protected]">[email protected]
The cadets parade on a Monday and Thursday between 7pm and 9.30pm.
Anyone interested in joining the Air Training Corps, who is aged between 13 and 18, can also phone Sarah Cohen during parade hours.
