FOUR West Devon police community support officers have completed their nine weeks of training, and last Friday were awarded with their ?passing out? certificates. Denton Williams, Seonaid Greenwood, Joe Raeburn and Mark Canvin are some of the first of South and West Devon Basic Command Unit?s intake of additional PCSOs. PCSO Williams and Greenwood are now based at Tavistock and PCSO Raeburn and Canvin are on the streets of Okehampton. They were awarded their certificates of designation by the BCU?s commander, Acting Chief Superintendent Barry Marsden. Their training, which has been both class room and street based, has taught them about community safety, their powers and the importance of their role in the extended police family and within the community. Chief Superintendent Barry Marsden said he was extremely proud to present the first of their major intake of PCSOs with their certificates of designation. ?Their nine-week training has been intense and all have worked hard to get to this stage. They will now be putting everything they have learnt into practice as they begin work in their communities.? The PCSOs? limited powers are sufficient to deal with minor disorder and anti-social behaviour. An additional 107 PCSOs will be introduced throughout South and West Devon over the next two years, with thirteen hitting West Devon streets next year.
