THE Okehampton Community Recreation Association (OCRA) Music Project is working with young people who want to form a rock or pop band and are aged 12-25 years.
The recent fundraiser at the Pavilion in the Park, showcased three of the bands; JOM!, Gravity Stops and the First Kids of Summer. The bands have evolved from the project through development of musicianship, playing together, writing and recording their own songs, performing, stagecraft and promotion.
OCRA manager Stuart Lord said: ‘There were great performances by all the bands. It is fantastic to see them all building their own sound, putting in so much practice and gaining in confidence.
‘A big thanks to Kelly Young for her mentoring and The Devon Music Hub for their funding.
‘If any young people want to start a band then please contact OCRA.’
The OCRA Dance Project also finished off a fantastic year of performances, with another great fun choreography from Lynne Rogers.
Sessions are for teenagers and primary age children and starting in the new year will be dance sessions for young children.
