Old Technicians 3
North Tawton 27
IT was the home side who took the first points with a penalty kick to the posts by their full back. North Tawton were soon back level from a penalty of their own, well struck from the 22 metre line by centre David Fewings.
Following a huge clearance from one 22 metre area to the other by Rob North, Tawton went onto the offensive and flanker Mike Young emerged from a lineout breakdown to thread his way through the Old Techs' defence for a good individual try. This was converted by Fewings to give Tawton a 10-0 lead.
As half time approached, Old Techs again mounted an attack on the Tawton line. Penalties were conceded and finally two yellow cards were shown to Tawton players in quick succession.
North Tawton had the chance of some early points in the second half as Old Techs were penalised on their 22 metre line but the kick drifted wide.
The next score started from an excellent set scrum by Tawton when they blitzed the opposition pack again to take the ball. It was fed swiftly out to left wing Alex Dennis who went over near the corner for a try to make it 15-3 to North Tawton. During the next phase of play an Old Techs player was red-carded.
Once again dogged defence by Tawton was called upon and they picked up penalties, resulting in the awarding of a penalty try for Old Techs, for repeated offending. The conversion was missed giving a score line of 15-8 to the visitors.
Tawton came back when full back Bill Sharp touched down. Soon after a Tawton player left the field with a gash to the head and an Old Techs' player was given a red card.
Quick saw a hole in the Old Techs defence and he changed his line and sprinted through to cover the length of the pitch and touch down under the posts; this was converted by Dave Fewings.
