Queen's College, Taunton 5

Mount House 1st XV 15

A HUGELY impressive record against local prep schools has forced Mount House to look to senior schools? U13 teams for worthwhile opposition. As a result, Mount House 1st XV played its first ever rugby match against Queen?s College, Taunton U13 side last week and the strong, direct running Somerset side gave Mount House its most searching examination of the term so far.

The Queen?s College side, unbeaten after five matches, posed a serious threat, particularly through the forwards, to Mount House?s similarly unblemished record.

Playing downhill in the first half Mount House enjoyed a considerable territorial advantage, but could not break through the excellent tackling of the home side. A penalty by Harry Cousens earned Mount House the lead, but it was only George Day-Robinson?s try on the stroke of half time that gave Mount House the size of lead their play probably deserved.

The second half saw Mount House on the back foot for much of the first fifteen minutes. Excellent organisation in defence and sheer courage in the tackle restricted Queen?s to a single try before the siege was lifted with an outstanding individual try by Harry Cousens which put the game beyond Queen?s reach.

This was exactly the demanding fixture Mount House was looking for and to come through a severe test of all aspects of the game with a win, albeit a narrow one, is very encouraging for a side that is showing considerable promise.

The 1st XV can now start a deserved half term break, its record still at 100% after 6 matches.
