PGSOB A 1
Tavistock 2
TAVISTOCK men?s hockey team were aiming to get maximum points in this game against PG?s, who are sitting second in the table, one point ahead of them.
Tavistock were under the cosh for much of the game, but the stalwart defence of Rodda, Costello and the immense Lethbridge, withstood the PG?s onslaught.
PG?s started brighter and maintained a consistent attack. Tavistock resisted and responded with pace and precision, which resulted in their gaining the upper hand through a deft finish by Andrews following an incisive run by Heard.
The tide of pressure continued to flow against Tavistock but the midfield kept their composure and with Barret, Boot-Handford and Honey Snr countering most attacks, Tavistock looked dangerous. Neil Kelly, playing his first game this season for the 1st XI, harassed the home defence.
The second half was of a similar vein, with PG?s desperate for the points. The added platform of Cowen in midfield and the skills of Honey Jnr continued to create danger. Midway through the half Heard thundered another goal into the roof of the net from the tightest of angles.
Time and again, keeper Bryant had to pull save after save from the bag, much to the disappointment of the home side. He could do little about the penalty that was awarded but this added spice to the last five minutes.
Tavistock weathered the storm, albeit with the home side claiming a back stick goal and look forward to this week?s clash against the University, who are sitting two points ahead, at the top of the table.
Man of the match: Neil Bradley.
All support is welcome, with a 4.30pm start at Kelly College this Saturday.
