IN the opinion of Cllr Waterhouse, Okehampton is a rather impoverished town.
Can I inform him that what Okehampton suffers from is too much interference from the likes of him living and representing a district in the south of the borough and who is intent on imposing on us what he thinks we need rather than what we want.
Yes, we did feel 'short-changed' when Waitrose replaced Lo-Cost, but for the fact that we were repeatedly told that the overall plan, encompassing gardens and a river-side walk, was the same for the successful scheme as the Co-op proposals.
Furthermore, we were told that there would be no diminution of parking but, of course, that was another broken promise.
We are now being made to pay for these mistakes whilst being denied the ongoing right to decide what is best for those living in this area as we now see from the decision to grant permission for this Lidl store to be constructed.
