I WAS surprised to read (Times, June 3) of a Liberal Democrat MP against historic ties being torn up. Only a few years ago at a Liberal Democrat conference in Dunfermline, Scottish MP Charles Kennedy proudly claimed that ?In England, regionalism is growing as never before, calling into question, actually, the idea of England itself?.

The Labour Party?s half finished devolution, and Charles Kennedy with his fellow left-wing Scottish MPs continuing to molest English/Welsh only legislation has done more to awaken English nationalism than the Conservatives Party have ever done.

Charles Kennedy thinks that as long as he calls England ?Britain? he can abuse democracy. Charles Kennedy?s action has lost the Liberal Democrats my vote.
