AFTER the first round of this year's Bill Fogerty Trophy, Okehampton and District Table Tennis League introduced the plate competition for those knocked out in the first round.
The competition was played at the Riverside Club, home of Okehampton Table Tennis Club in Castle Road and produced a night of great sport, with three out of the five teams competing.
Teams playing were Okehampton D, North Tawton and Moretonhampstead B.
North Tawton eventually came out as winners, having won both their matches although not without a fight from the other teams.
Moretonhampstead B were runners-up, leaving Okehampton D to take the wooden spoon. Okehampton D fought well and with some games going to deuce deciding the result, it could have been a different outcome.
Okehampton D: Maureen Venton, Ron Venton, Andrew Moppett, John Howick.
North Tawton: Jill Dilley, Steve Olive, Derek Clifton.
Moretonhampstead B: Richard Underhill, Peter Denham, Chris Howarth.
Results: Okehampton D, Moreton B 1-3; North Tawton, Okehampton D 4-0; Moreton B, North Tawton 0-4.
The league calendar starts on January 7 and will be particularly interesting with two teams having been entered by Okehampton College for the first time — follow their coming successes or failures in the Okehampton Times.
There is still enough time to make up a team for the coming season if you feel some winter exercise will shed those extra Christmas pounds — minimum three players. Details can be gained from the club or by ringing club number on 01837 55335, or ring the league secretary on 07786155084 after 6pm — any age, any shape, any time.
