Exeter Saracens U14s 13

Okehampton U14s 26

OKEHAMPTON travelled with some key players missing which enabled several of the squad to have a full game in order to state their claim for a place in the starting line-up.

The Saracens' forwards were quicker and more aggressive at breakdowns but although gaining the upper hand in possession their backs were unable to gain advantage. This was mainly due to ferocious tackling from the Okehampton backs, particularly Josh Moshman and Jamie Dart.

This started to reap its rewards with the forwards gaining the initiative. Paul Thomas and Phil Harding gained many hard yards with strong driving runs.

From midfield drives from the forwards the ball was spun down the back line and Harding gathered it to burst through the defence to score under the posts. Rob North converted.

The Okes relaxed and allowed their hosts back into the game. After concerted pressure they scored a deserved but unconverted try.

With the Exeter lads controlling the rucks it was not long before they were again pressurising the Okehampton line. From a lineout five metres out the home side gained possession and drove over for a well taken try.

From a break, centre Moshman made ground before being tackled. Harding was in support to pick up and drive through the gap to score with North again converting.

Lack of concentration from the Okes allowed Saracens to take the lead again with an unconverted try.

The Okes started to create space and overlaps with good passing movements. Aaron Henderson gathered a clearing kick and sprinted for the line to score wide on the left. North converted from close to the touch line.

The final minutes were all Okehampton with North capping a fine second half performance by bursting over from five metres out.

OKEHAMPTON'S forwards settled into a rucking routine and the back line made ground into the Bodmin 22 area. Number 8, Luke Wonnacott ran around under the posts for the first try of the game, Rob North converted.

Wonnacott scored his second try with North converting. Prop Lewis Kelly picked up from close to the line and crashed over for his first try for the club, North converted.

One final score from centre Jamie Dart completed the first half.

Back row forward Richard Burrington gained a constant stream of ruck and maul possession for his colleagues. Smart inter-passing saw play approach the Bodmin line where North split the defence to score.

Good handling and support play led to further tries for Wonnacott, North and second row Dave White with North converting one of these.

This week the Okes travel to Launceston for what will no doubt be a stern test. Meet at the club 9.20am,

Teignmouth U13/U14 34

Okehampton U13s 15

OKEHAMPTON's forwards started well, driving Teignmouth back into their own half. But when Teignmouth managed to get the ball they spun it wide to their two big wingers who scored all their tries and all from inside or nearly inside their own 22. Tom Browne kicked a good penalty for a 17-3 half-time score.

In the second half Okehampton played well with driving runs from Robert Long, Scott Simpson and Stuart Bennie, backed up by Luke Crocker and Sam Bullingham.

Richard Friend and Jake Chisholm provided the link with the backs for Will Heard and Tom Browne to set up attacks. Tom McGratton made driving runs and David Binns went outside his opposite man to pass to Josh Noon or Rory Honeychurch from full-back to score twice. Browne converted one.

Ricci Cobb was strong at prop allowing Long to pick up off the back of the scrums to drive for the line, going over once and unable to ground the ball.

THIS was a hard game for Okehampton playing without their entire front row because of injury.

Okehampton got off to a good start with an excellent solo try by Luke Honeychurch. But Teignmouth took control, scoring three quick tries, one of which was converted.

Matt Denis had an excellent game on the wing, putting in some good tackles.

Okehampton scored two tries in the second half, one from Dean Beardon and the other from Stuart. Although Teignmouth scored three more tries, Okehampton never gave up until the final whistle.
