Devon Junior Cup North Okes U15s 20 Honiton U15s 13 PLAYED in near perfect conditions at North Tawton this match saw North Okes came through a hard tough fought game against a rugged Honiton team. Coming out of the blocks quickly Honiton went on the attack showing good rucking skills and providing plenty of ball for their backs. Good defence by North Okes kept them out until the fly half made a good break and Honiton scored a converted try. North Okes fought back with a series of forward drives with Pete Gillard and Chris Knott prominent which took them right up to their opponents? line. With Honiton penalised for killing the ball Eric Bright took a quick penalty and dived over adding the conversion himself. With the forwards waking up and beginning to provide more ball North Okes added a penalty to take a half time lead. The second half saw North Okes begin to gain the upper hand with the half backs working and tackling well and Brennan Townsend and Paul Winthorpe firm in the centre allowing their opponents little opportunity. A good period of play saw North Okes move right into their opponents? 22 with a drive by Chris Humphreys that saw him held up over the line. A good pass to Paul Winthorpe saw him cross for an excellent try which Eric Bright converted. A deep kick from a scrum on halfway and excellent chase from Will Lethbridge and new boy Joe Taylor sent panic through the Honiton defence, who finally gave away a penalty which Eric Bright converted to stretch North Okes? lead. With less than ten minutes left two needless penalties given away at line-outs saw them both converted to reduce the arrears. However it was North Okes who finished the stronger for a much deserved win. l Training is at ORFC on Thursday at 6pm and next Sunday North Okes are away to Tavistock U15s.
