THE annual Buckland Summer Fair will not take place this year, following a crisis meeting of the organising committee recently.
Stephen Fryer, committee chairman, made an appeal in the Times earlier this year for new volunteers to come forward and help organise the fair, which raises money for local organisations.
But no-one has come forward and Stephen said a decision had to be made without any further delays.
'We possibly could have muddled through but I hate doing anything half-heartedly,' said Stephen.
'It's very, very sad, but obviously we all lead too busy a life to do this sort of thing.'
Stephen said the fair would only be resurrected if enough people could be found to volunteer for the organising committee, which will hold an annual meeting in July.
'It's a grim outlook for the village really — we've lost the flower show as well and the village shop has closed,' said Stephen, who said the bright spot on the horizon was that talks were still on-going with the Post Office about the possibility of using the village hall as a sub-post office, following the shop closure.
