THERE will be no need for an election to decide who will sit on Okehampton Town Council. Nominations that closed last Wednesday showed candidates in the town's two wards had been returned unopposed — but only eleven of the 14 seats have been taken, meaning the three vacant seats will be filled either by co-option or a by- election. Candidates returned (all are Independent unless otherwise stated) are: East ward (7 seats) — Kay Bickley, Conservative; Michael Ireland; Tony Leech; Hyder Ali Pirwany, Conservative; Peter Stunnell. West ward (7 seats) — Pat Jones, Conservative; Charles Letchford; Christine Marsh, Local Conservative; Mark Slater, Local Conservative; Pat Snell, Liberal Democrat; David Weekes. In Hatherleigh there is a packed field for the ten seats, with 15 candidates standing. They are: Graham Alford; Dennis Bater; Gary Bush; Kevin Drew; Andrew Entwistle; Tracy Guest; Allison Hill; Malcolm Jacobs; Richard Jones; Deborah Laing-Trengrove; Darren Penwill; Neil Penwill; Colin Sharp; Madeline Taylor; Ian Trenaman.
