A PLAN to build four new houses at Crediton Road, Okehampton, has been rejected by West Devon Borough Council's planning committee.

Councillors followed the advice of their planning officers, who said the design was out of keeping with the area, would affect the privacy of neighbours and worsen the sewerage system.

AJY Developments applied to build four detached houses and garages on Crediton Road between Wonnacotts Road and Lopes Crescent.

Okehampton Town Council described the plan as infilling which would enhance the area, but the Environment Agency and South West Water opposed it because they said the sewerage and drainage systems would be affected.

Four other letters of objection were received, referring among other things to loss of privacy and traffic problems.
