Bude U16s 27

Tavistock U16s 5

Tavistock kicked off 2009 with a defeat against a strong Bude team. The home side applied all the early pressure and Tavistock were finding it difficult to break out.

Although they had a lot of possession, Bude were finding it difficult to penetrate the Tavistock defence. A ruck in the corner saw Bude go over for the first score. The visitors now applied the pressure with Mark Friend and Tom Rickard making penetrating runs.

A series of lineouts and scrums enabled Tavistock to make ground to within five metres of the Bude try line and from another lineout the forwards drove Tom Rickard over for a well deserved try. The second half started with Tavistock gaining possession and getting the ball out to winger Jack Bond who made a great run before being tackled out in the corner. A scrum five metres out enabled Bude to touchdown in the corner. Three further points were added with a penalty kick.

Elliot Northmore for Tavistock made an excellent run from deep into the Bude 22 but turnover ball enabled the home team to drive down the pitch where the ball was fed wide for another try.

Tavistock came back and driving runs from Rickard, Friend and Jack Miller saw the home team defence stretched but the visitors could not make the final pass count.

The final score came for the home team following a quick lineout and break down the line for their player to touchdown under the posts.
