Devon & Exeter Intermediate 4
Amory Rovers 5
Okehampton Argyle Thirds 1
OKEHAMPTON were disappointed to find they could only field nine players for this most important game of the season. Two of the nine were carrying injuries and the chance of winning the league looked ominous.
But every Okehampton player got behind the ball and defended with a passion. James Callaghan ran tirelessly up front and Okehampton created chances in the first half. They were delighted to finish with a clean sheet.
The second half saw Amory being frustrated by Argyle keeper Neil Clift, but they eventually scored and looked to be adding more.
Minutes later, a Dave Grimes free kick was headed against the keeper by Ian Wilson and Tony Pickering slotted home the rebound.
Okehampton were looking to be team of the day if not the season with this performance and the Amory players and supporters were getting anxious.
But Okehampton had run themselves to a standstill and with Amory bringing on three fresh players it was no surprise to see them score four goals in the last 20 minutes.
There were great performances notably from Tom Riley and Martin Letchford and all the players were proud to have been involved.
Next game home to Winkleigh, meet 2.15pm.
