THIRTEEN-year-old rower Nicky Lovering is making his mark in his sport.

Nicky rows for the Plymouth Amateur Rowing Club and is coached by his father, Tony. On June 22 he competed in his first regatta at Plymouth along with 11 other clubs — he gained first place in the Junior 18 quads, second in the Junior 16 double sculls and second in the Junior 16 single sculls.

Having only been sculling for two months, he already shows great potential against competition three years older than himself.

His efforts on the day helped the club win the Astor cup.

Nicky will be rowing in the first Eddystone Challenge on September 7 this year — this is a sponsored event organised by Plymouth Amateur Rowing Club to raise funds to buy equipment for the young members of the club.
