Carlsberg South Western League Division 1 West Callington Town 0 Newquay 6 NEWQUAY moved into fourth place with this fine victory over a hard working Callington, who were undone yet again by a suicidal 15 minutes at the start of the second half at Ginsters Marshfield Parc. The visitors had the better of the opening exchanges and the fact that it took 20 minutes to break the deadlock was in no small part due to the good keeping of Callington?s Jay Richmond who made a series of fine saves. The goal was a great debut for Polish-based Wasim Sunday who celebrated his debut in Cornish football when he stretched to turn in a right wing cross. Callington came back into the game before the break but could not break down the back four of Newquay. Town manager Micky Hunt must be wishing that half times can be abolished as once again they failed to properly come back out and within 20 minutes had conceded three more and the game was over. On 55 minutes, the impressive Adam Bromley stormed down the left and cut into the area before being impeded by Town captain Chris Canham and Sam McKune fired home the resultant spot kick. Three minutes later Bromley was provider again as he crossed for Sunday to score his second. On 63 minutes Bromley?s efforts were rewarded when Liam Dingle?s right wing cross beat the assembled defenders but not the Newquay winger who headed home to complete an excellent display. With 15 minutes left Patrick Rushdon completed a fine solo run with a great finish to make it 5-0 before Paul Cox finished off the scoring on the stroke of full time. l Callington have appointed a new second team management team for Saturday?s home East Cornwall League Cup tie against Lanreath. Steve Blatchford is joined by Dave Ewings, who will combine his role with his current duties with Callington Colts. Dave has had many years? experience in managing both adult and junior sides and is looking to revive the club from the base up by encouraging more young local players to benefit from Callington?s excellent facilities. The club welcomes Dave?s envolvement and looks forward to rebuilding the second team as the season progresses.
