WAITROSE has received over 300 applications for 150 jobs in its new Okehampton store which opens on March 7.
But the company is still appealing for people to fill the evening and weekend vacancies.
All the managerial positions — around 50 — have been filled by a mix of existing Waitrose personnel and new employees from the Okehampton area.
Interviews started last week for shop floor staff at the recruitment office in the Charter Hall.
Press officer Carol Hubbard said: 'It is is all going very well. The recruitment staff have been very impressed by both the quantity and quality of applicants.
'We have also had a lot of interest from people who used to work at the old Co-op store.
'We will have no problem filling the full and part time vacancies but it is the weekend and evening work that we have trouble with at the moment.
'This is suited to young people 16 or above who are perhaps in full time education or education of some sort and looking for some extra money to subsidise their studies.
'The company is very flexible on hours so we can come to an arrangement which really suits the applicant.'
Anyone interested should call in at the recruitment centre.
The manager will be John Webb, who has 20 years experience as a Waitrose employee and will be coming from the Wallingford store in Oxfordshire.
