THE Premier of 'New Dawn — Dartmoor Sunrise' will be performed by the Ten Tors Concert Orchestra in St Paul's Church,Yelverton on Monday May 29 at 7.30pm.

The newly formed professional orchestra commissioned the television and film composer Roger Bolton to write the music as the focal point in its 'Music for the Millennium' project of ten concerts.

Among his many television credits are Granada's 10 part period drama series The Grand; BBC's action drama series Bugs; Title sequences for 999, Sunday Night Clive James, The Late Show and The Natural World. Most recently Roger has scored Sir David Attenborough's latest programme The Last Gods of Easter Island, transmitted on BBC2 on April 24.

Roger, who lives within the Avebury Stone Circle, is very much involved and interested in the natural world and the environment around him.

'I was very excited to be given the opportunity to compose a piece of music which would encapsulate the spirit of Dartmoor in this millennium,' he said.

Roger, working closely with Simon Ible, the artistic director, has had further input on the concert programme. The orchestra will be performing Peter Warlock's 'Capriol Suite' as a new arrangement by Roger. The original music was based on dances from Arbeau's Orchesographie (1588).

The soloist for the evening is baritone Simon Tunkin. Simon lives in Germany, but has a long association with Devon through his family who live in Totnes and Tavistock.

He has appeared with Scottish Opera 'Go Round' production of La Boheme; Malatesta in Don Pasquale and Raoul and the Phantom in Andrew Lloyd Webber's musical at Her Majesty's Theatre in London.

Simon will be singing Figaro's Song from Rossini's Barber of Seville and a medley of songs from West Side Story specially arranged for the performance by Roger Bolton.

To finish the concert the Orchestra will be performing Mozart's magnificent final Symphony No 41, Jupiter.

Simon Ible will be giving a pre-concert talk on Friday May 26 at 7pm in St Paul's Church Hall.
