THE new general manager for Dartmoor Railway was welcomed to Okehampton by town mayor Cllr Tony Leech last week. Cllr Tony Leech, who stated his continued support for the railway, said he was pleased to see Dartmoor Railway?s parent group was ?determined? to make community railways successful. The new general manager, Stuart Farmer, was appointed last month, having moved back to Devon after spending 12 years in Scotland. Mr Farmer said: ?Dartmoor Railway offers both Okehampton and other communities along its corridor a valuable asset in furthering both leisure and tourist facilities in West Devon ? additionally Dartmoor Railway will play an important role in Devon?s growing need for an integrated transport solution.? Mr Farmer has also stressed the importance of developing partnering opportunities and said he was keen to promote such partnerships with other groups in the Okehampton and surrounding areas. David Payne, the former general manager, will remain an important team member within Dartmoor Railway?s structure, focusing on the ever growing need to comply with health and safety requirements on community railways.
