FROM this Easter ?Keep Devon Tidy? signs in West Devon will be getting a spring clean.

Brand new signs urging people to protect Devon?s beautiful countryside by taking their litter home will be springing up across West Devon. The first such sign in the area will be on the West Devon Drive in the first lay-by from the Sourton Cross end.

Designed by Devon County Council, the signs are a combination of the County Council crest and views of Devon taken from GWR and BR posters dating back to the 1930s.

Helen Dobby, West Devon Borough Council?s contracts manager said: ?Every year we clear up more and more rubbish from the side from the side of the roads, including lay-bys and picnic areas.

?Many people leave litter behind without a second thought for the consequences or how they are personally contributing to the waste problem in Devon. ?These signs are very important as they provide a timely reminder to people who may be stopping for a picnic or a quick snack while they take a journey break that simply clearing up after themselves can make a huge difference to the quality of the countryside.?
