A NEW parents? group has been set up in West Devon to give local families a say about services for children with special needs. Parent Carers? Voice is a group of parents or carers who all have children with some form of special need. They all share a common aim to improve the services their children receive. The new group will be meeting on Tuesday, September 12 from noon to 1.30pm at Whitchurch Village Hall. Groups meet regularly in six areas across Devon to discuss relevant issues such as health, education or social services with professionals coming along to listen to parents? concerns and look for solutions. Jenny Store, a development worker who supports Parent Carers? Voice meeting in the West Devon and South Hams areas, said: ?Anyone who is a parent or carer of a child with special needs is welcome to come along. The meetings are very friendly, the venues are easily accessible. ?By coming along to one meeting you are not committing yourself to anything. Join us at one meeting, then return again as little or as often as you choose.? Whilst the group cannot deal with individual issues, attending meetings and talking with other parents or carers in similar situations may provide an answer. Anyone who would like more information about Parent Carers? Voice before the first meeting should contact Jenny on 01803 863761.
