YOUNG mums and dads on the Bere peninsula are being invited to an open day in the parish hall in Bere Alston this month, with a view to setting up a Mums'/Dads' group. The open day will be on Saturday, May 17 from 11am to 3pm and there will be free children's entertainment for ages 0-3 year and various displays of services, courses and support that could be offered. These will include computer courses, baby massage, baby signing, family learning, first aid, fire safety, crime prevention, working links, Tiddlywinks and Tavistock Children's Centre. A few Bere Alston mums, in partnership with the Tavistock Children's Centre, are interested in starting a group on the peninsula to provide an opportunity and venue for young parents to get together for peer support, as well as the opportunity to attend courses and access other services and information. There is currently no suggested name for the group, so there will also be a competition, with a prize, to name it. Anyone interested in the group is invited to attend and give their support.
