A DIVING centre, holiday park or education centre could be one of the many uses for the Meeth Clayworks site, which could be sold in the near future.
A tour of Meeth Clayworks is being offered on May 25 for people interested in buying the 370-acre site.
A quarter of the clayworks is taken up by two large lakes more than 50 metres deep, and the site offers a variety of geological features that means it could be used for conservation, sustainable leisure developments or other tourism uses.
The clayworks lie to the west of the village, and was famous for the working of ball clay with the company Meeth (North Devon) Clay Company Ltd, which was set up in 1920.
The working of clay stopped at Meeth in 2004 and since then, a programme of restoration has been undertaken alongside ongoing ecological monitoring works.
The land is being sold in three plots, with a 21-acre lot comprising three grassland fields, a 134-acre parcel of land, lake, the former stone quarry, grassland in restoration and woodland, and a further 215 acres comprising Stockleigh Lake, Stockleigh Tip, Meeth Tip, Lower Moor Plantation and the main Meeth Works.
A number of buildings remain on the site, including workshops and an open clay store.
All three plots are available for viewing on Friday May 25 from 9am and 1pm.
