VISITORS to Burrator Reservoir will notice a lot of activity around the hundred year old Iron Store, as it is renovated as part of the Burrator Historic and Natural Environment project.
The Iron Store is a former forestry building and the only surviving example of an original building made of corrugated iron on Dartmoor.
It will become a discovery and learning centre and will contain an interpretation centre, an indoor classroom/training room and site office.
The project aims to consolidate historic remains around Burrator, improve access and increase community engagement and educational opportunities at Burrator.
There will be a chance for interested visitors to see how the works are progressing at a mini open day of the Iron Store on Saturday (December 7), between 2pm and 4pm.
Anyone interested should visit Emily Cannon, heritage learning officer for South West Lakes Trust on the day, in the tool yard across from Burrator Lodge.
It is also not too late to get involved in researching and compiling information to be used in the interpretation centre and across the wider site.
Help is currently needed in researching Lowery Barn, Longstone Manor and Leathertor Farm, construction of the dam and collecting recordings of personal memories for the oral history project.
For more information or to find out how to get involved, please contact Emily on 01822 855700 or email her at [email protected]">[email protected]
