LIFTON Primary pupils were very excited to have some new additions to the school recently.
Four chickens now live at the school in a purpose-built pen. The chickens, coop and first bag of feed were all donated to the school by generous members of the community.
The children take it in turns to collect eggs and care for the chickens and the eggs are sold to parents. The money raised from the sale of the eggs is used to buy feed and other supplies for the chickens and there was even enough raised to send a chicken through a charity scheme to a family in Africa.
Headteacher Mrs Cripps said: 'This is a lovely entrepreneurial opportunity for the children and at the same time we hope the children will learn how to care for the chickens and take responsibility for their welfare.'
