Palladium League U15s
Saltash v Tavistock
TAVISTOCK lost a close game by two runs against a fairly strong Saltash XI.
Fielding first, the visitors did well to contain the home side to 64. The wickets were shared by the bowlers although B Busby did well taking 3-10.
In reply Tavistock lost early wickets. A good stand by W Simpson and D Downham gave them the chance of victory, but once they had gone the tail never wagged.
For their first game together the lads can feel very pleased. Ben Neale captained well, whilst D Downham was man of the match.
Next game v Kingsbridge at the Ring today (Thursday).
Plymouth v Whitchurch
PLYMOUTH CC A on winning the toss put Whitchurch into bat and brought pressure to bear with accurate seam bowling backed by superb fielding.
Whitchurch struggled all the way with only Tom Pilbeam (32) and James Lampe (15) making double figures in a total of 86 for 5. D Henwood and J Tucker were pick of the bowlers with two wickets apiece and Tucker bringing about a superb stumping from keeper P Evans.
The Plymouth reply hit trouble from the start with wickets falling to leave them reeling at 15 for 5, only Carl Bradshaw (24) making any significant progress.
Throughout the Plymouth innings the showers started to disrupt further progress and with two stoppages for rain and deteriorating light the match was finally abandoned with Whitchurch tantalisingly close to victory, having their opponents 55 for 9.
The Whitchurch bowling was as tight as ever with an even spread of wickets for all the bowlers and as in Plymouth's case the fielding was a joy to watch, especially under the damp conditions, with Richard Rouse bringing off a direct hit run out from the covers.
James Aggiss for Whitchurch and Richard Lehane for Plymouth were awarded fielders of the match.
