BRIDESTOWE ram roast had a naval theme this year with ?Nelson? cutting the tape to open the event. Nelson was portrayed by Diane Porter. The Sporting Green, complete with marquees and gazebos, was packed for the event, the overcast sky not having put people off attending. Organisers of the annual event estimate that the record amount of approximately £2,000 was raised for the new village hall. fund. Northlew Silver Band provided entertainment, along with duo Fruit Cake. Other attractions included archery, cream teas, a bouncy castle, beer tent, children?s games, barbecue, various stalls and raffle. The ram ? actually a lamb ? was roasted over a wood fire. New for this year was a knobbly knees competition, won by John Burgess. A tug of war for women and men and an egg-throwing competition were also hotly contested. Three new picnic tables and six seats were in place for the event, replacing those vandalised a few months ago.
