THE lead member for health at Torridge District Council is marking World Cancer Day on February 4 this year by asking local residents to 'find out more' about the disease.
The theme for this year's World Cancer Day is 'Debunk the Myths', and is focusing on dispelling misconceptions about cancer.
Cllr Andy Boyd said: 'Clearly cancer can be a difficult topic to talk about but dealing with the disease openly can help. For many cancers, there are warning signs and symptoms and the benefits of early detection are indisputable. Actually, a third of the most common cancers can be prevented and everyone has the right to access proven and effective cancer treatments and services on equal terms.'
On February 4 each year, World Cancer Day sets out to improve general knowledge and challenge misconceptions about the disease on an international level.
