THERE was a nautical theme to the annual presentation of awards at Tavistock Air
Cadets this year when the inspecting officer was Rear Admiral Keith Beckett CBE.
Parents, friends and guests saw the Corps of Drums perform and Luke Turton and Jamie Brown gave presentations on their expeditions to complete the final part of their Gold DofE Award.
There was an opportunity for the guests to see displays of all the cadet activities and achievements over the last 12 months and meet the staff.
The new IT facilities were on display together with the latest electrical projects and flying models.
Cadet Warrant Officer Callum Smith and Flight Sergeants Jamie Brown and Matthew Boyle were on their final parade before leaving to go to university.
The three cadets were presented with certificates of merit by Wing Commander Francis Reis, officer commanding Plymouth and Cornwall Wing ATC.
Francis promoted Ali Cox to Cadet Warrant Officer, the highest rank for a cadet. Admiral Beckett presented six cadets with BTEC certificates in aviation studies and four with BTEC certificates in public service before making the annual awards to: cadet of the year, Cdt Tabitha Carpenter; Newcombe Trophy best NCO, Sgt Nathan Turnock; Mitchell Sport Trophy, Cdt Adam Pook; best junior cadet, Cdt Amy Jennings; Crook Drill Trophy, Cdt Zara Waddy; Saunders Attendance Trophy, Cpl Emily Pritchard; Laing Shooting Trophy, Cdt Ryan Langman; Endeavour Trophy, Cdt Zara Richards.
Admiral Beckett paid tribute in his address to the smart turnout of the 44 cadets on parade, the time given by the volunteer staff and the support from parents.
The squadron expressed thanks to all the parents who helped with the refreshments. The home made cakes were of a high standard and enjoyed by all.
