TWO year nine Tavistock College students have performed at the highest level to qualify for the National cross-country schools' championship.
Claire Fraser and Sarah Hornby started their journey in November at the Plymouth and West Devon cross-country championships running for Tavistock College. Claire won the intermediate girls' race and Sarah finished an excellent fourth. This qualified both girls for the Plymouth and West Devon team to compete at the Devon championships held in Plymouth.
At the Devon championships which took place in January both girls produced outstanding performances, with Claire finishing second and Sarah seventh. As a result the girls had now qualified for the Devon team to run in the South West schools Championships.
These were held in February at Taunton, Somerset, and both Claire in 24th and Sarah in 27th, qualified to represent the South West region at the National Cross Country Championships held at Castle Donnington in Leicestershire two weeks ago. Sarah produced an excellent display to finish 204th in the country, unfortunately injury prevented Claire from competing.
Both girls have shown amazing running ability and have achieved at the highest level and are a credit to both the local athletics club and to the college.
