TWO Tavistock Young Farmers Club members talked their way to first place with their Devon team recently, taking part in a competition at the National Young Farmers' club speaking and sports finals.

Ross Edwards, 18, and Lucy Toop, 19, were part of a team of four YFC members from across Devon representing the county at the Intermediate Brainstrust competition at the finals held at Stoneleigh in Warwickshire.

The Devon team spoke about the moral rights to support local food, whether the role of a rural community support officer is beneficial and the regulations affecting new entrants to the farming industry. The team managed to beat clubs from all over the country after competing at county and South West area levels, winning first place in the competition and qualifying for national level.

Philip Blowey, Adrian and Nick Cole from Tavistock YFC also took part in the national speaking and sports finals, gaining third place in the fence erecting competition.
