Devon 2 League North Tawton 14 Salcombe 18 NORTH Tawton RFC could count themselves unlucky not to have won this opening match in the 2005-6 Devon 2 League. Having opened the scoring with a Tom Davis penalty their forwards dominated the rest of the match with a master class of set piece driving and loose rucking and mauling. Salcombe were outplayed up front and it is to the credit of their back division that they came back into the match with two good tries and a conversion during the latter part of the half. An exchange of penalties approaching half-time left the score at 15 to 6 to Salcombe. The second half was again dominated by the Tawton pack. Despite this Tawton were only able to come up with one try, scored by mercurial flanker Phil Wonnacott. Most of the final period was spent in the Salcombe half, and Tawton came closest to a winning score from a Hanns break off the back of a five metre scrum. The feed to hooker Neil Davis was judged to have been off side so the try was disallowed. One penalty kick to each side earlier in the half left the final score at 14-18 to the visitors from South Devon. Devon North East League Crediton III 13 North Okes 26 THE combination team of North Tawton 2nd and Okehampton 3rd is playing in the North East League this year. It was an encouraging start for the squad to have 22 players going away to Crediton where an excellent game resulted in a win for the North Okes. It is hoped that these games will provide match opportunities for players who may not always make the senior teams, but who relish the chance of an enjoyable game of rugby. Anyone interested to find out more should contact either North Tawton or Okehampton rugby clubs.
