Devon C division
Cockington
v Lewdown
LEWDOWN looked to secure their second win of the new season after the first day victory, and 'C' Division debut, over Seaton.
Lewdown won the toss and put Cockington to bat first on what appeared a dry and poor looking surface; this decision was soon justified when in the third over South African Rob Mutch two wickets, both bowled.
The following over Phil Yeo picked up two wickets and another wicket in the seventh for Mutch causing the home side to be in big trouble at 6-5. A mini revival followed with a partnership of 36, this was to be the only positive for the batting side as the in form Mutch ripped through the lower order and finishing with the outstanding figures of 8-23, ably supported at the other end by Yeo, 2-36, Cockington finishing all out for just 63 in 22.4 overs.
Opening batsmen Kris Harris and Dave Ball set about chasing down the low total, reaching a partnership of 20 before Ball was caught at mid off. Harry Geering joined Harris and soon set about the bowling, scoring at more than a run a ball, with both players scoring freely the final shot of the day went to Harris who finished the game off in style, hitting the winning runs with a six, Harris, 30 no and Geering 27 no easily seeing Lewdown home in just 12.4 overs.
It has been a fine start to the campaign for Lewdown, picking up 39 out of 40 points, in what is the highest level the club have played, but will face much stronger opposition as the season progresses.
This Saturday Lewdown travel to the new Ivybridge ground.
