Scottish composer Sally Beamish dedicated her latest work to Mrs Sigmund to recognise the support the campaigner gave to her and her family when they were struck by the effects of OP poisoning.

Mrs Sigmund and her family will be attending the first performance of an oratorio — the Knotgrass Elegy written for, and dedicated to her.

The 40-minute piece is based on Graham Harvey's book:— The Killing of the Countryside, an assessment of the impact of pesticides on rural Britain.

'It's absolutely wonderful,' said Mrs Sigmund. 'I couldn't believe it when she wrote it and asked if she could dedicate it to me.'

The work will be performed by a symphony orchestra, children's choir and dance band at the Royal Albert Hall on July 29.
