FILM footage of the Great Western Railway from Plymouth to Launceston via Tavistock will feature in the fifth archive film evening organised by Tavistock Museum on April 8.

The event, in Tavistock Town Hall, starts at 7.30pm and the main feature is being shown courtesy of Archive Films. Supporting films will include a repeat showing of the 1976 Goose Fair film by South West Film and Television Archive and Serving the World, part of the Holman collection, courtesy of the Trevithick Society.

The museum has organised this programme due to demand from residents wanting to see local railway film footage and the Goose Fair film which features interesting local scenes and characters.

A more stark reminder of our lost industrial heritage will be highlighted in the film of the mining engineering factory, Holman Works at Camborne, in the late 1940s. Recently, short excerpts were shown on breakfast TV and the film has opened to packed audiences in West Cornwall. All the films will be shown on a new wide screen recently acquired by the museum.

Tickets are available at £4 per person, £2 per child from the tourist information office now at Court Gate, Tavistock Museum, which is open daily from April 3 and from the Robey Trust or on the door.
