THE sports hall at Okehampton College became an interactive crime scene last week as students from Year 10 investigated the fictional murder of the school caretaker. Introductory sessions led by experts from Crime Scene Investigation workshops gave students the opportunity to learn about the latest forensic science techniques and how they are used to solve crimes. They were given the chance to practise finger printing, blood testing, foot printing and hair and fibre sampling before gathering evidence from the crime scene. Team members then analysed the results to find matches to four possible suspects. Lead investigators gathered the information together and reported their findings to the rest of the year group. This activity was part of the ongoing programme of Enterprise Education at the college which prepares students for the world of work by developing teamwork, risk taking and investigative skills. All the participants appeared to enjoy the day and a number expressed an interest in finding out about careers in forensic science. Pictures by Ian Snell
