Ocean League U11s
Tavistock Girls 1
Efford 0
AFTER a lay off for two months, Tavistock took on top of the league Efford to decide who goes top.
Tavistock played top goal-scorer Rebecca Rose in goal, Robyn Hammond and Amy Gale were strikers with Jade Eales sole midfielder and Sophie Bassett, Vanessa Davey and Hollie Shaw in defence.
Efford started the strongest but great defensive work from Shaw thwarted most attacks. Rose was superb in goal and Hammond was deadly on the left wing.
Efford broke through and Davey found herself last defender back but made a superb clearance to set Hammond off and running, only to be felled on the edge of the box.
Hammond?s free kick soared just over the crossbar but shortly before half time she crossed into Gale who smashed a shot into the net.
The second half saw the introductions of Leah Roberts who held strong in midfield. Bassett?s long throws and Rose?s goal kicks saw Tavistock on the attack, but they were met with a strong Efford defence.
Again Efford were the strongest in attack, but Bassett, Davey and Shaw worked well together and covered for each other. Gale worked the ball up and a cross from Hammond was met by Eales, whose shot was accurate but was stopped dead on the goal-line by a muddy goalmouth.
Efford broke through but a superb driving save by Rose saved the day, although a nasty head injury was incurred when the striker followed through and caught her in the head.
Efford never gave up and Tavistock dropped back to secure victory.
Player of the match: Hollie Shaw.
