LEWDOWN Cricket Club celebrated their successful 2007 campaign with their annual end of season lunch at the Eagle House Hotel in Launceston. A fantastic turn out of the club president Frank Rolff, committee, players, parents, family, sponsors and friends of the club enjoyed the meal. The master of ceremonies, Jack Skuse, thanked all staff for their hospitality. All those present were thanked for their support both on and off the field. Shirt sponsors for the First XI, Premier Carpets, were thanked for their continued support, as were all other club sponsors. Great appreciation was shown to the West Devon Sports Development grant and the Lords Taverners, this year assisting in affording a new wheel away net and youth coaching, as was the Alder Community Grant, money going towards offering club players the opportunity to gain their coaching qualification. The same thanks went to Devon Coaches Association who this year staged a three day youth coaching session at the club with money also raised allowing players the opportunity of gaining their coaching qualification. The First XI gained promotion to the newly formed Devon-wide D division and had a solid season with good results against strong opposition ? particularly a victory and a winning draw against old rivals Bridestowe. The Second XI, captained by Steve Batstone, finished a respectable third. The Tamar side are seen as a youth development side and a number of the young Lewdown players are shaping up to become strong cricketers. Thanks were given to the captains of the Tamar Evening teams, Ade Clements and Harry Geering.
