Western Counties West

Tavistock RFC 9

Truro 13

TAVISTOCK played host to Truro, a team that had handed out a real pasting earlier on in the season. Truro kicked off down the slope, but some good driving through the middle saw Tavistock camp in the Truro half.

A revamped back row gave Tavistock most of the possession, but the Truro defence proved up to the task, and Tavistock found it difficult to break down. After a sustained period of possession, with Tom Friend being particular effective, Truro were penalised and Richard West slotted the penalty over. As so often happens, Tavistock were penalised, virtually straight from the restart and Scott Martin equalised for Truro.

Tavistock won the restart and Will Brown made good ground, again the ball was recycled and Doug Lloyd managed to open up the defence, taking play up to the five metre line.

Tavistock went on all out attack but Truro just managed to hold on and Tavistock were penalised, Truro cleared their line and Tavistock had to build again. A good line out steal by Tavistock was driven forward, but the ball was turned over and Truro moved the ball quickly along the line for Luke Trescothick to squeeze over in the corner for the first try.

Tavistock came back strongly, and as the half was coming to an end, Tavistock tried to kick over the top, but the Truro back three were up to the task and running the ball back found the gap and Luke was in, at the same corner, for his second try.

The second half started with Tavistock now playing down the slope, again Duncan Law was at the fore winning a plentiful supply of ball, kicks over the defence gave Tavistock the advantage of ground, but the Truro defence was outstanding. However the visitors eventually had to concede another penalty and Richard West duly converted.

With most of the possession and position, Tavistock continued to press, and another penalty was won, again Richard did the honours.

Truro were finding it increasingly difficult to get out of their half, even when Tavistock's Will Brown was sin-binned to give them a numerical advantage.

Dan Luffman for Tavistock made a searing break, but just got hauled down by the last defender. Unfortunately it was not to be for Tavistock but there were positive aspects to take into this week's match at Wadebridge.
