Cornwall and Devon League Tavistock 12 Honiton 12 AFTER the previous week's poor display against St Austell this was a vastly improved performance by a Tavistock team still light on a number of influential players. Tavistock knew they were going to be in for a hard game after narrowly winning at Honiton last month, and so this turned out as the away side started strongly forcing Tavistock to absorb a period of early pressure and taking the lead with a try from Nathan Hanney converted by Neil Wollacott. As the half went on Tavistock got into their stride and forced deep into their own half. This pressure eventually paid dividends when centre Duncan Law crossed between the posts allowing an easy conversion for Josh Sutton. Both sides knew that the first score after half time would be crucial and Nathan Hanney put Honiton in front scoring wide out on the left. Tavistock then had to chase the game and did so with a mix of powerful forward play and some good attacking lines in the backs. Tavistock camped in the Honiton territory for long periods and as they forced their way toward the line from a driving maul tempers flared. Although Tavistock crossed the try line the referee was unsighted as he tried to sort out the waring forwards. Again Tavistock thought they had scored when Matt Trevithick crossed the line only to find that the referee had already blown his whistle for a penalty to Tavistock. Tavistock did eventually get back on level terms with a try from flanker Will Brown, who had put in an excellent performance. l On Saturday Tavistock travel to Perranporth in the Cornwall and Devon League for a 2.30pm kick off.
