MORE than £2,000 was raised in aid of two charities last week at an event in Northlew. The activity day for all the family at Croft Farm was organised to raise money for Guide Dogs for the Blind and cancer charity CLIC Sergeant. However, the day was supposed originally to be a sheep shearing marathon by Phil Bridgeman from Winkleigh. Phil was meant to shear as many sheep as possible in 24 hours for the marathon but due to the Foot and Mouth restrictions the event had to be cancelled. The day still proved a success and saw more than 250 people take part in the many activities available, including a bouncy castle, cream teas, hog roast, and a disco. With around 50 people taking part in a clay pigeon shoot on the farm. Organiser and Croft Farm owner, Pat Hutton, said: ?It was unfortunate we couldn?t have the shearing because of the foot and mouth. We had a lot of positive feedback from the day and people said the atmosphere was great ? it was well supported by the local people.? Pat expressed thanks to the Duke of York of Iddesleigh for the Hog Roast.
