THE axing of the First bus service through Whitchurch earlier this spring will go under the spotlight at a meeting in Tavistock next week.
The removal of the 84 service was met with outrage by residents in Whitchurch who claimed they had been stranded without public transport.
Now a meeting is to be held at the town hall, attended by West Devon and Torridge MP John Burnett, Devon County member for Tavistock Cllr Roy Connelly, Tavistock town councillor Iain Andrews and mayor Cllr Jenny Metcalf and Gerald Taylor, managing director of First.
Cllr Connelly said: ?The meeting will be very specifically about the removal of the 84 service in Whitchurch Road ? we want to make it as constructive as possible.?
Cllr Connelly said since articles in the Times had highlighted the problems caused by the withdrawal of the service, he had been contacted by many concerned residents.
?A significant number have called me and it?s a problem I didn?t realise was as bad as it actually is.?
The meeting, to be held in the Rundle Room at Tavistock Town Hall on Monday July 12 is open to members of the public who have been affected by the withdrawal of the 84 First bus service through Whitchurch Road. The meeting begins at 7pm.
