CENTRAL Devon has seen the number of job seekers in the constituency drop, according to the latest figures.
Claimants applying for Job Seekers Allowance (JSA) have gone down month on month over the last year. In September, 983 people were claiming JSA in the Central Devon constituency — down by 21 people compared with August. The figure is 13 lower than in September 2011.
Central Devon MP Mel Stride said: 'These figures are clearly good news but we still need to keep pressing hard on growth.
'The Government's recent announcements on more infrastructure investment are particularly welcome and will include important road development in my constituency.'
The 983 unemployed claimants in Central Devon represent a rate of 2.3% of the economically active population aged 16 to 64. This means that the constituency has one of the lowest rates of unemployment within the 650 UK constituencies.
