SOUTH East Cornwall MP Colin Breed visited the Oasis Centre in Gunnislake on Tuesday to give his support to the campaign to keep it open. The centre has been hit by a shortfall in funding which means its long term future is in doubt. Oasis has received emergency funding of £6,000 from Caradon District Council and Calstock Parish Council but needs £20,000 a year to continue delivering its services — helping the unemployed to find jobs and offering training and support. Centre manager Jane Uglow said this was Mr Breed's first visit to the centre: 'He was very positive and spoke to some of the volunteers and people who use the service,' she said. 'He is assisting us in writing letters to potential funding sources. 'He agreed with us that if we shut down and start up a new project people would fund us but that is not what it is about, particularly in rural areas — it is about long term project costs.' l Pictured from left are Grenville Edwards from the Calstock Development Trust board of trustees, who run the Oasis Centre, patron of the charity Sir Robert Hicks, Colin Breed and centre manager Jane Uglow.
