SOUTH East Cornwall MP Sheryll Murray will be officially opening the new Callington Foodbank at the Mustard Seed Church this weekend.

The launch will take the form of a public announcement by the town crier in St Mary's Square followed by a procession down Church Street to the Mustard Seed where a ribbon cutting ceremony will take place.

Members of both Callington Town Council and Cornwall Council will be there to show support for the project.

Churches Together in Callington spearheaded the town's foodbank after they became aware that the Liskeard and Looe foodbank was frequently delivering items to people on the breadline in Callington.

In co-operation with the Trussell Trust and a dedicated group from Callington over the past four months, a suitable site was identified and developed to accommodate the foodbank warehouse and a drop-in centre.

The first food collection took place at Tesco last Saturday.
