THE MP for West Devon and Torridge is to become a trainee sub-postmaster for the morning at Bridestowe Post Office tomorrow (Friday). Geoffrey Cox will serve customers at the branch, which is threatened with closure and replacement by an 'outreach' service, to understand the work and value of the sub-post office to the community. A public meeting last week attracted several hundred local people, and a large gathering is expected to greet the MP and to put him through his paces behind the counter. Mr Cox was due to hold a second meeting at Westminster with Tim Nickolls, the Head of the Post Office Network Change Team on Wednesday, to make representations about the closure plans for Bridestowe Post Office and other branches in the constituency. Mr Cox said: 'The enormous groundswell of public opposition and indignation at the closure of Bridestowe Post Office, and other post office branches throughout West Devon and Torridge, is a clear indication that the Post Office Limited does not appear to have done its research carefully enough and has got many of its judgments badly wrong.'
